A few days ago, I went to my first paint nite presented by Yummi Studios at the Post Office Cafe in Babylon, NY. Attending a paint nite has been on my 30 before 30 list, so when my friend asked me to go, I was excited.
Introduction to Yummi Studios Paint Nite
The event was called “Piña Colada Paint & Sip”. If you do attend a Yummi Studios Paint nite, make sure to read the terms; there are BYOB, alcohol-free or a pay at the venue. We thought Piña coladas were included, but they were sold at a discounted $5. Our instructor gave a brief overview of Yummi Studios and various paint nites hosted within Long Island and NYC. The instructor also mentioned the possibility of becoming frustrated going through the steps to create our “masterpiece”. The main focus for attendees is to have a good time. I was a bit nervous about my final result since I have zero painting skills.
The Painting Experience
The painting we followed looked pretty tough to reproduce, but following directions step by step wasn’t so bad. I “failed” on more than one occasion, but certain cover-ups were able to hide my faults. In addition to painting, my friends and I were able to catch up and talk about what was going on in our personal lives. It had been months since seeing each other, so we had a lot to talk about.
In the end, my palm leaves needed love, but we had an overall great time. Getting to the venue was the biggest hassle. If I go to another paint nite, I’ll definitely find one closer to home.
