My nieces and nephews loved the Disney Boardwalk so much last year, I suggested we go again during our family trip to Central Florida. Our villa rental was about 15 minutes from the Disney theme parks, so travel time was a breeze. If you’ve never been, here are some fun things to do on the Disney Boardwalk.
Watch Street Performers
Jugglers, comedians, magicians, and musicians often come out to perform. Each act lasts about 10-15 minutes and they even pull out participants from the crowd.
Eat at the Restaurants
There are a number of chain and private restaurants on the Disney boardwalk as well as vendors selling snacks and treats. If you don’t plan on eating lunch or dinner there, get the kids some cotton candy, funnel cakes, or candied apples.
Visit the “Beach”
Outside of the Beach and Yacht Club Resort is a man-made “beach” with lots of sand. You are not allowed to go swimming in the lake, but you can build castles and play in the sand at your leisure. There’s even a section where you can play on the swings.
Watch a Movie
Similar to NYC’s Free Summer Movies in the park, there are several areas to sit and watch a movie. If you are a guest at one of the resorts, movies under the stars are complimentary services. Children under 18 are not allowed to be there by themselves, so grab a blanket and have a nice night out with the family.
Roast Marshmallows
By the beach, there is a bonfire available to roast unlimited marshmallows. We missed it this time around but had an amazing time last year. It was my niece and nephew’s first time roasting marshmallows and they had a blast. It’s a simple, but fun activity for all ages.
Play Carnival Games
How can you go to the boardwalk and NOT play any carnival games? Shoot hoops, pop a balloon with a water gun, toss a lobster into the pot with a hammer and leave with a prize. These are all available for a small fee. You can even get a caricature picture of yourself drawn.
Watch the Sunset
No matter how many times I’ve seen it, watching the sunset is one of the most beautiful things to see. If you’ve never seen one, go! It’s a peaceful sight. Our trip to the Disney Boardwalk wore the kids out and with an exception of buying margaritas and other drinks, everything was free!
