It’s been a week since I returned from my weekend at the Bougainvillea Beach Resort Barbados and I’m starting to miss it already. It was one of the best birthday celebrations and I got to spend it with not one, but 3 of my cousins. Of all the places on earth, why would we go to Barbados? Well, my cousin and I always knew that our family has roots in the island and we’ve never been.

Since we were kids, we have taken trips to Trinidad a handful of times and though we enjoy visiting family there, it’s not much of a vacation when going. In addition to finding out similarities and differences between the two islands, we also wanted to get away from the busy city life and celebrate my upcoming 30th birthday.

My cousin and I chose to stay at the Bougainvillea Beach Resort which is about 15 minutes from the airport and 5-10 minutes away from Barbados’ popular nightlife hangouts: Oistin’s and the St. Lawrence Gap. Like most airports, there are flat fare rate fares to all destinations on the island.

From the time we stepped foot in the lobby of the Bougainvillea Beach Resort, we knew we would have a peaceful stay. Our assigned room wasn’t available yet due to our 2 AM  arrival, but the front desk associate Brian found us a room equivalent to the one paid for. The Junior Suite included a queen-sized bed, full bathroom with tub and shower, kitchenette area with a fridge, microwave, hot plate and sink and separate seating areas to watch TV and eat. We also had an outside terrace with a lounging area and view overlooking the pool and beach. When waking up the Saturday morning, my cousin was in such disbelief, she had to ‘touch the water to know it was real’.

The Bougainvillea Resort also provides entertainment for guests daily. On our last night, we were able to attend the Manager’s Rum Punch Party and BBQ Buffet that included live music. They also provide movie nights and live shows throughout the week.

From the friendly staff to the location, beautiful views, and great weather, we want to go back. If we plan another cousin’s trip, I’d definitely consider the Bougainvillea Resort again. We would also like to do more research on my paternal grandfather’s family to see if we have relatives on the island, so at least a week minimum is needed.

This place looks pretty awesome. I love the fact that it was a cousins’ trip, I don’t hear that too often. But it looks like I need to be there now.

You had me at the first photo! It looks so delightful and I have been wanting to get back to Barbados, since I was only there for a day on a cruise.

OMG, I have never been to Barbados yet and after this post, it is officially on my list to go sooner rather then later.

It was a very relaxing vacation and we got to do a lot in the short time. The best part was the fact that the residents didn’t hound us even though they knew we were tourists.

  5. Marianne says:

Looks gorgeous! – just look at the color of the water, amazing! I love that your room overlooked the sea, and that they have a rum punch party for guests 🙂

  6. Holly says:

Looks like a lovely resort! Did you feel like you had good access to some of the extras, like the water sports equipment and sun lounges?

    • Joanna E says:

Yes. I think because it was off season we were able to access them better than if it were during the busy season. Our cousins from Trinidad were in another hotel about 10-15 minutes away and it was the same thing. We had a great time.
