Blowout on Natural Hair at the Angelo David Salon NYC

I received a complimentary blowout at the Angelo David Salon in exchange for sharing my experience. Many thanks to Dion and the team for their service. As always, all opinions expressed are my own.

Just in time for Valentine’s Day and Fashion Week, I headed over the Angelo David Salon for a blowout on my natural hair. After protective styling for most of the winter, I felt it was time to switch up hairstyles. After being greeted by the front desk associate, I was immediately impressed by the decor in the waiting area and only sat down for a few minutes before heading to the shampoo area for a quick hair consultation.

I’m so afraid of heat damage, so I don’t straighten my hair very often. Since going fully natural in 2012, I’ve probably blown out my hair 5 times. I have been to professional hair salons but was nervous because I wasn’t sure if this salon had experience with naturals. I checked social media and found nothing, but I was glad I took a chance.

Once I sat down, I was asked if I was natural or relaxed. One thing I do appreciate about going to the salon is getting a professional’s insight on the right and wrong things I’m doing with my hair. When shampooing and conditioning, I was asked about the products used on my hair and was given a recommendation to deep condition and trim more often.

The whole drying and straightening process took about two hours total. Before straightening, my hair was dried via the tension method using cool heat and my stylist Dion, used tons of Redken Pillow Proof for a heat protectant to blowdry and flat iron.

We didn’t have time to trim, but I was really pleased with the end results. I guess that’s an excuse for me to go back. I loved Dion and the team at the Angelo David salon’s professionalism during my visit. Even though I was his last client, I still received great service. It was just an added plus that I had an event to go to right after my visit. I wore my hair straightened for two weeks before going back to curly without heat damage.

This came out really nice. The technique used on your hair, would you recommend it for low prosity 4c hair?

I’m not 100% sure about low porosity because I’m high, but the technique worked pretty well for me. Some salons do a free consultation before they style. You can do your research and see which one works best for you.

They did a great job with your hair. I haven’t been to a salon in years. My hair has been so damaged by all the weaves, coloring etc.. it is non existent. I went natural and don’t care. I do need a trim though right now :-).

Your hair looks great. I’m always nervous about going to different stylist since I have natural hair, too. Some people tend to use too much heat, and not the right products. This one did a good job. Love your lipstick.

Glad you had a great experience. I’m always so worried about going to the hair salon with my natural hair. I never know if the stylist really know how to treat and care for natural hair.

I blow it out maybe once a year. Funny when people that aren’t used to it see my hair growth.

I have to say, I think it’s incredibly brave of you to set foot into a salon not being 100% sure if they would be equipped to handle your natural hair… And your good faith and bravery definitely paid off, because your blow out looks FABULOUS!!!

I don’t visit the salon anymore because I’m more of a DIY when it comes to my hair but I’m surprised your hair lasted for so long. That was one heck of a blowout!

You look so cute! I know you slayed at the event you went to afterwards. I try to go to the salon at least once a month for self care and to feel better about my appearance.
