Do you have a large family and want to save some money on lodging costs for vacation? A vacation rental may be your answer. The number one thing I look for when planning out any vacation, especially after finding a flight deal is the cost of lodging. Our most recent family vacation included 10 adults and 5 children. Staying at Disney resorts are expensive so we rented a house. The vacation rental gave us the feeling of being home and it saved us about $5000+ vs getting a hotel room for each family.

A popular vacation rental option for budget travelers is Airbnb. Many don’t know there are a number of Airbnb alternatives online. Recently, there have been recent allegations of discrimination from owners towards potential guests, whether it be race, gender, age or sexual orientation. If you aren’t aware of Airbnb alternatives available, here are three you can choose from.

For both family trips to Florida, we rented villas through HomeAway. The site has 1.2 million listings in over 190 countries. HomeAway offers luxury home and room rental options and you can compare prices for listings in the same area. If there are specific questions about the property, contact the host directly before renting.

FlipKey by Tripadvisor

Owned by TripAdvisor, FlipKey features over 300,000 rooms, homes or apartments for rent in 11,000 cities. If you are a solo traveler and choose their private room option, FlipKey requires owners to provide a government-issued ID and proof of address. This is part of their internal validation check and to reduce the risk of fraud. If there are any issues with your rental and used their payment platform, the payment protection plan offers guests a full refund.

I’ve used Flipkey before. I have to try the new Innclusive. Glad they changed their name. I have to say l never had any problems l was unaware of with AirBnB over 5 years that l’ve been using them, but it’s always good to have an alternative.

We often travel with a group of 10 or more, renting a house is usually our best option. I’ve tried HomeAway, but not the others. I will have to look into those as well.

This is so interesting to me, I personally do enjoy staying in a hotel when on vacation but I’m becoming pretty curious about Airbnb and such.

I am always leary of these but having seen so many blogger sisters posting about these alternatives, I will have to give it a try. I definitely would not travel alone though. Thanks for sharing.

These are great options. Wish I had known about them when we were planning on taking a vacation with family over the summer. It will come in handy next summer though.

I haven’t tried any of these options but I really want to. Hearing the bad stories makes me nervous, especially when I travel alone. Glad to hear of these other options besides AirBnB
